Continuing their mission to “build a more
just, sustainable, and peaceful world,” the Rockefeller Brothers Fund
designed their new offices to meet the stringent requirements of LEED-CI
v3, for which they were awarded Platinum certification. The lighting was
designed to respond to the architectural lines of the space, with
slender, recessed and pendant hung, linear fluorescent luminaires in the
open spaces and decorative fluorescent luminaires in selected
locations. LED task lights supplement the ambient light levels and
provide a highly efficient decorative element in the enclosed offices.
A variety of automated lighting controls ensure the greatest energy
savings possible, including the use of occupancy sensors, timeclocks,
and a low cost daylight dimming system. Linear fluorescent “picture
lights” at the north and south perimeter walls compensate for the
silhouette effect caused by the deep-set windows and provide lighting
for artwork on these walls. Decorative glass in the reception area
downlights adds sparkle and another layer of texture for this beautiful
and sustainable space.
