The lighting concept for the John J.
Audubon Bridge consists of two simple components, creating a lighting
composition that will reveal the structure and beauty of the bridge in
way that is “in harmony with nature.” As motorists and passengers move
across the bridge and through the cable arrays, they will see each cable
as a changing form through the juxtaposition of light and shadow. At the
pylon, uplighting will reveal the portal openings with a soft, dim
light, welcoming drivers to pass through these entries to the opposite
side of the bridge, while protecting the night sky. Together, these
lighting elements will create a connection between the communities on
either side of the river and will create an image of gentle power and
beauty that will become part of the local landscape.
