Working closely with the engineering design team, the community and the
Toledo Arts Commission, the lighting concept developed for this
signature bridge reflects Toledo’s history as the “Glass Capital of the
World”. Through a series of public workshop sessions, a final bridge
design was selected that centers around a glass enclosed pylon that
glows with colored lighting, creating a playful and unique nighttime
landmark for the city of Toledo. State-of-the-art LED lighting
technology provides the long life, energy-efficient source needed to
create this infinitely flexible lighting system. The bridge lighting was
unveiled at a gala event in June 2007, which elicited the following
comment when posted on YouTube: “Holy Toledo!!! That's gorgeous! This is
so great for the city!”
Faith Baum designed this project
during
her tenure with the Mintz Lighting Group.
