Ken Douglas - Resume

Ken Douglas is a principal and founder of Illumination Arts, to which he brings his training in theatrical lighting design and more than twenty years of experience in architectural lighting design.

Ken’s work has received awards from The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North American (IESNA).  He has spoken at NeoCon and the IALD Annual Education Conference, and has written articles for publication in industry magazines.

Noteworthy projects in Ken’s portfolio include: The award-winning 2001 Relighting of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial and the lighting design of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.; Sprint World Headquarters Campus in Overland Park, Kansas; Morris Crossroads Corporate Park in New Jersey; and the Saadiyat Bridge in Abu Dhabi.  He is currently responsible for a diverse portfolio of projects, including signature bridges, historical restoration projects, office interiors, convention centers and hospitality projects.

In addition to his depth of expertise and experience in lighting design, Ken has the ability to understand and realize complex mechanical and technological details.  This skill is apparent in everything he does, from his painstaking details for the Jefferson Memorial to his ability to meet clients’ needs by keeping Illumination Arts at the cutting edge in the use of computer software.

Ken holds the accreditation of Lighting Certified (LC) by The National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP), the only nationally recognized certification program for architectural lighting designers.  He is also an active Professional Member of the International Association of Lighting Designers where he was recently elected to the Office of Treasurer on its Board of Directors, following two terms as a Director-at-Large.  Ken served for four years as Chairman of the organization’s signature awards program and was awarded their Volunteer Service Award for his efforts.  Additionally, his work has appeared in both Architectural Record and Architectural Lighting magazines.

Ken studied Theatrical Lighting Design at SUNY Purchase and Entrepreneurial Studies at Baruch College.
