Ken Douglas is a
principal and founder of Illumination Arts, to which he brings his
training in theatrical lighting design and twenty years of experience in
architectural lighting design.
Ken’s work has received awards from The International Association of
Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Illuminating Engineering Society of
North American (IESNA). He has spoken at NeoCon and the IALD Annual
Education Conference, and has written articles for publication in
industry magazines.
Noteworthy projects in Ken’s portfolio include: The award-winning 2001
Relighting of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial and the lighting design of
the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.; Sprint World Headquarters
Campus in Overland Park, Kansas; Warren Hall at Columbia University’s
School of Law and Business; and the Saadiyat Bridge in Abu Dhabi. He is
currently responsible for a diverse portfolio of projects, including
signature bridges, historical restoration projects, fitness centers,
office interiors, convention centers and retail venues.
In addition to his depth of expertise and experience in lighting design,
Ken has the ability to understand and realize complex mechanical and
technological details. This skill is apparent in everything he does,
from his painstaking details for the Jefferson Memorial to his ability
to meet clients’ needs by keeping Illumination Arts at the cutting edge
in the use of computer software.
Ken holds the accreditation of Lighting Certified (LC) by The National
Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP), the only
nationally recognized certification program for architectural lighting
designers. He is also an active Professional Member of the International
Association of Lighting Designers where he was recently elected to a
second term on its Board of Directors. Ken served for four years as
Chairman of the organization’s signature awards program and was awarded
their Volunteer Service Award for his efforts. Additionally, his work
has appeared in both Architectural Record and Architectural Lighting
magazines.
