Signature Bridges - Indian River Inlet Bridge
Sussex
County, Delaware
(2008 Design
Competition)
|
Ocean
and sky, which are so prominent at this site, were the inspiration for
the aesthetic lighting concept for this replacement bridge. Mimicking
the colors of Aurora Borealis, swirling bands of deep blue, green and
violet light softly illuminate the cable stays, blending with the colors
of the surrounding landscape at night. LED steplights provide a low
level of illumination on the pedestrian walkway, allowing for safe
passage along the bridge without interfering with enjoyment of the
beautiful site.

Indian River Inlet Bridge
Sussex
County, Delaware
(2002 Design
Competition)
|
This unique, arched cable-stayed bridge was designed to replace an
existing bridge over the Indian River Inlet. Located within a state
park, and in an environmentally sensitive area, the lighting design for
this project required special attention to detail and sensitivity to the
bridge’s surroundings and visitors. Aesthetic lighting for the bridge
consisted of deep blue accent lighting to reveal the shape of the arch,
and custom-designed LED luminaires to provide a low level of light on
the pedestrian walkway while respecting the quiet and peaceful nature of
this oceanfront location.
